The popularity of modern bow hunting as a sport was greatly influenced by Fred Bear.  His successful hunts for North American big game were recorded in numerous magazine articles and books.  His adventures gained further prominence for bow hunting when his hunts were featured on television shows.  He journeyed to all parts of the world that offered challenging game, including Africa and India.  In the Forward of the book "Fred Bear, The Biography of an Outdoorsman," is written:  "During his lifetime, literally hundreds of articles have been written about Fred Bear.  They have appeared in small local newspapers with circulation in the hundreds and in major national magazines reaching millions."
